Buying a watch online raises a lot of small questions. What size fits me? How long will the battery last? Is this seller genuine? We’ve collected the 15 questions we hear most from customers and answered each one simply.
Choosing a watch
1. What is the difference between quartz and automatic watches?
A quartz watch runs on a battery. A tiny quartz crystal vibrates at a fixed rate, which makes it very accurate (usually within a few seconds a week) and low maintenance. An automatic (mechanical) watch has no battery. It winds itself from the movement of your wrist and is powered by springs and gears. Automatics are loved for their craftsmanship, but they are less accurate and need servicing. Most EUTOUR watches use quartz movements from Swiss RONDA or Japanese MIYOTA. The J048 is an automatic.
2. What dial size suits my wrist?
Measure around your wrist with a tape or a strip of paper, then use this rough guide:
- Wrist under 16 cm: 34 to 38 mm dial
- Wrist 16 to 18 cm: 38 to 42 mm dial
- Wrist over 18 cm: 42 mm and above
The watch’s lugs (the parts the strap attaches to) shouldn’t hang past the edges of your wrist.
3. Which hand should I wear my watch on?
Traditionally on your non-dominant hand, so the left wrist if you’re right-handed. It’s more comfortable and keeps the watch safer from knocks. But there’s no rule. Wear it where it feels right.
4. How tight should a watch be?
You should be able to slide one finger between the strap and your wrist. The watch shouldn’t slide over your wrist bone, and it shouldn’t leave a deep mark.
5. Which strap is best: leather, metal mesh or wood?
- Leather: comfortable and classic, but keep it away from water and sweat-heavy workouts.
- Metal mesh / steel: best for daily wear, humid weather and the monsoon. Easy to clean.
- Wood: light and unique, but needs gentle care. See our wooden watch care guide.
Battery, water and care
6. How long does a watch battery last?
For most quartz watches, typically two to three years, depending on the movement and features. When it stops, get the battery replaced soon. An old dead battery can leak and damage the movement.
7. Can I wear my watch in the shower or while swimming?
It depends on the water resistance rating. 3ATM watches handle rain and hand washing but not showers or swimming. 5ATM handles brief immersion and light surface swimming. Our water resistance guide explains every rating.
8. How do I clean my watch?
Wipe the case and glass with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. For a metal strap, use a soft toothbrush with a little mild soapy water, then dry it well. Never use chemicals, perfume or alcohol on leather or wooden straps.
9. How often does a watch need servicing?
A quartz watch mostly needs a battery change and a seal check every few years. An automatic watch benefits from a full service every four to five years, where it is cleaned, oiled and adjusted.
10. Will my watch get scratched?
Any watch can pick up marks over time, especially on polished metal. Take it off for heavy work, the gym or sports, and store it separately so it doesn’t rub against jewellery or other watches.
Magnetic ball watches
11. How do I read a magnetic ball watch?
The larger ball shows the hour and the smaller ball shows the minutes. It takes most people a day or two to get used to it. Read our full guide: how to read a magnetic ball watch.
12. Is the magnet in the watch safe?
Yes, for most people. The balls are steel, and a small magnet under the dial moves them. If you have a pacemaker or another implanted device, check with your doctor first. Our guide Are magnetic watches safe? covers phones, cards, airports and more.
13. What if a ball comes off its track?
A hard knock can occasionally jolt a ball out of position. Usually a gentle tap or tilt of the wrist lets the magnet pull it back. If it doesn’t return, contact us.
Buying online safely
14. How can I spot a fake watch online?
- The price is too good to be true. A “luxury” watch at a fraction of its real price is almost always a copy.
- No invoice or warranty. A genuine seller gives you a proper bill and a written warranty.
- Social-media-only sellers. Be careful with sellers who only exist on Instagram or WhatsApp, have no website, no address and no return policy, and ask for payment by UPI to a personal account.
- Vague product details. Genuine listings state the movement, case size, strap material and water resistance.
Buy from the brand’s official website or authorised marketplace stores. At eutour.in every order comes with an invoice and a 1-year official warranty.
15. What warranty do I get?
EUTOUR watches come with a 1-year official warranty. You can add Care+ for an extra year of cover. If something goes wrong, get in touch with us and we’ll guide you through the claim.
